Tight security arrangements in Bijulibazar before RPP's protest (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: The pro-monarchy party Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is holding a protest today (Sunday) in Kathmandu. In anticipation, security has been tightened in areas including Bijulibazar.

After RPP announced plans to breach restricted zones, the government tightened security arrangements in Bijulibazar. According to RPP, its leaders and cadres will stage demonstrations in three locations across Kathmandu today.

The plan includes gathering at Bhadrakali and marching toward the western gate of Singha Durbar, gathering at Bijulibazar and heading toward the Parliament building, and assembling at the Dhungedhara near Bhatbhateni to proceed toward the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

RPP Chairperson Rajendra Lingden will lead the protest in New Baneshwor. Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani will lead the Baluwatar rally. And Bikram Pandey will lead the Bhadrakali rally.

RPP spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha stated that party chairperson Lingden will also participate in today’s protest. The demonstration is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.

Following RPP’s declaration to breach the restricted zone at Bijulibazar, the government has issued a stern warning.

The Ministry of Home Affairs released a statement saying that any activities violating the constitution and law or spreading anarchy in society will not be tolerated, and legal action will be taken against anyone involved in such acts.

Meanwhile, teachers also staged a protest today on the Maitighar–New Baneshwor road section, which concluded before noon (12 PM).
