Rain washes out Nepal vs Afghanistan clash; Ends Nepal’s U-19 World Cup Dream

Kathmandu: Nepal has been eliminated from the U-19 World Cup after the decisive match against Afghanistan under the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifier was canceled due to rain.

With the match being called off due to rain, both Nepal and Afghanistan shared points. However, Afghanistan qualified for the World Cup based on a superior net run rate, bringing Nepal’s qualification journey to an end.

Both Nepal and Afghanistan had won all three of their previous matches, collecting an equal total of 7 points.

Due to continuous rain since morning, even the toss could not take place. Although the match, originally scheduled for 9 AM on Saturday, was being prepared to be played by 2 PM, the final inspection revealed that the pitch was still damp. As a result, the umpires decided not to proceed with the match.

Nepali fans were visibly frustrated by the cancellation. CAN (Cricket Association of Nepal) has announced that all ticket fees will be refunded.

Following the unrest among supporters, police were deployed to the spectator stands (parapet area).
