Kathmandu: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has decided not to halt its protest even after meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The Federation stated that the discussion, held on Friday night between Prime Minister Oli and representatives of the Teachers’ Federation at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, could not yield a positive outcome, so the protest will continue.

Laxmi Kishor Subedi, Chairperson of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, said their protest has not stopped and will continue today as well. He also called on teachers to participate in the protest at Maitighar Mandala on Saturday at noon.

The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has been protesting for the past 18 days, demanding the enactment of an Education Act. Chairperson Subedi said that the main goal of the protest is not to settle for minor demands but to push for a progressive Education Act that addresses previous agreements.

‘We have not come to protest just to bargain over one or two minor demands. Our goal is a progressive Act that addresses past agreements,’ said Chairperson Subedi. He also mentioned that their demands will only be fulfilled through the strength of their protest.
