Durga Prasai claims of surrendering to police

Kathmandu: The controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has claimed that he surrendered to the police in India’s Assam state.

‘About two hours ago, the coordinator of our campaign, Mr. Durga Prasai, surrendered himself to the police in the Indian state of Assam for his safety,’ Prasai’s secretariat announced Thursday night via Facebook.

According to the secretariat, Prasai had just stated on Wednesday that he would appear within 24 hours if his safety could be guaranteed.

Prasai, the coordinator of the National Campaign to Save the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens, is accused of inciting violence during a pro-monarchist movement in Tinkune on Chaitra 15 (March 28).

He is alleged to have personally driven a vehicle into police officers, escalating the situation and resulting in the deaths of two individuals. He fled the scene and later escaped to India.

Although Prasai has claimed to have surrendered in India, Nepali authorities have not yet officially confirmed the development.
