Kathmandu: The Muslim community are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr across the country.
It is celebrated to mark the beginning of Shawwal month, after the end of Hijri Samwat (Ramadan). The people who fast throughout Ramadan go to the mosque to celebrate Eid-ul Fitr.
According to the Hijri Samwat calendar, the month of Shawwal began on March 31 (Chaitra 18), on Monday, after the end of Ramadan on Sunday.
Likewise, the first day of Shawwal is celebrated as Eid. Ramadan is 9th month as per Hijri tradition.
In Islamic tradition, there is a belief that this month the Holy Quran descended on the earth. Based on that, they fast all day, without eating, in the month of Ramadan, and pray to Allah for good thoughts, good behavior, and good deeds.
Similarly, they give donations to the poor, which is called ‘Zakat’ in Islamic tradition.
