HoR meeting postponed for 30 minutes

Kathmandu: The House of Representatives (HoR) meeting has been postponed for 30 minutes.

The HoR session was postponed after the lawmakers took the stand to not run the session unless Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli clarified the dismissal of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)’s Managing Director Kulman Ghising.

Lawmakers protested the government’s decision to dismiss Kulman Ghising from his position just after the beginning of the house session. Following this, Speaker Devraj Ghimire allotted time to clarify the matter.

Speaking in HoR, lawmaker Shakti Basnet stated that the government dismissed a competent public servant to protect the interests of middlemen. He accused the government of being inclined toward authoritarianism, saying, ‘The government has demonstrated its power by humiliating a dedicated public servant with its two-thirds majority.’

He further alleged that the government a staged clarification process against Kulman Ghising to cover up its own wrongdoing. ‘The government has lost confidence, which is why it made the decision to dismiss Kulman. Perhaps they fear they won’t even last four months,’ he remarked.

In the House of Representatives meeting, opposition parties protested, stating that the government dismissed a competent public servant while displaying arrogance over its two-thirds majority.
