Kathmandu: A 24*7 ‘Help Desk’ has been formed at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, Odisha in response to the protest of Nepali students.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday evening, the Higher Education Department of Odisha formed a Help Desk including 9 members.

The IAS Director of the Higher Education Department, Kali Prasanna Mohapatra, is the Nodal officer of the Help Desk.

Prakriti Lamsal’s last rites performed

Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, who was pursuing undergraduate studies at KIIT, Deemed to be a University, was found dead on February 16 (Falgun 4). Students protested Lamsal’s suspicious death.

The issue of agitating Nepali students being chased from the hostel became a diplomatic concern. After the demonstration of agitating students, students were called to return to college.

This raised questions regarding the security of Nepali students in KIIT.  In response to demand, the Higher Education Department formed a help desk for KIIT’s students.
