Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the 10-year-long armed conflict led by the Maoists was not a People’s War but an act of violence.

Speaking at a meeting organized at Singha Durbar on the occasion of Democracy Day on Sunday, PM Oli made this remark.

PM Oli urged the public to commemorate the historic day, which marks the defeat of autocracy; the systems oppressed the people and exhibited naked arrogance, and regression through the sacrificial struggle of the Nepali people.

‘This day should not be observed merely as a formal event based on top-down orders and directives. Instead, preparations should be made to turn it into a people’s celebration, ‘ said PM Oli.

The Prime Minister said, ‘This is the day that brought the greatest transformation to the nation. Some prefer to call violence a ‘People’s War Day,’ yet there are factors that refuse to acknowledge the massive changes it brought. Denying Democracy Day is not democratic. This day should be celebrated with grandeur.’

Additionally, a National Democracy Day 2081 Central Ceremony Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
