Kathmandu: The number of people, buying yam in the vegetable market of Kalimati, has increased.

With the approaching Maghe Sankranti festival, the demand for yam has started to increase. Also, vegetable traders are busy bringing various types of yam from different parts of the country to Kalimati.

More than 1 lakh metric tons of yam from different parts of districts are imported to Kathmandu. Yams are being imported from districts including Sarlahi, Nawalparasi, Nuwakot, Sindhuli, Dhading, Kavre, Makwanpur, Chitwan, and Sunsari in Kathmandu.

Simal, Hattipaila, and wild yam (blue, white) have been imported into the Kalimati vegetable marketplace. The price of yam is different as per its type in the Kalimati vegetable market.

Currently, vegetable traders are selling 5 kilos of Akashe Yam at 500 rupees, Ban Yam at 450 rupees, Nilo Yam at 400 rupees, Ghar (Seto) Yam at 400 rupees, Simal Yam at 250 rupees and Hattipaila Yam at 350 rupees.
