176 people die in South Korea’s plane crash

Kathmandu: The death toll of the people, who have been killed in a plane crash in South Korea, has reached 176.

The National Fire Agency updated the death toll figure to 176. According to the BBC, a South Korean transport official earlier gave details about what happened to the plane as it approached the airport.

The official said the plane had been attempting to land but then air traffic control gave a bird strike warning forcing the plane to hold off. About two minutes later, the pilot called a Mayday – and air traffic command permitted the plane to land from an opposite direction.

The pilot accepted, video shows the plane touched down without wheels or any other landing gear and skidded down the runway before crashing into a wall, causing a fiery explosion. The transport department notes that the head pilot has been in this role since 2019 and has more than 9,800 hours of flight experience.

The country’s fire service said the plane carrying 181 passengers, including six crew members, crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea.

Two flight crew were rescued from the wreckage and taken to hospital.

1,562 personnel have been deployed for the rescue. According to the agency, 490 fire department employees and 455 police officers are also on the site.
