Kavrepalanchok: Namobuddha is a historical, religious, and tourist destination in the Kavrepalanchok district.

Situated at approximately 1,750 meters above sea level, Namobuddha attracts tourists and pilgrims with its beautiful mountains, serene environment, and natural beauty.

There are many religious stories connected with the Namobuddha. The story of King Maharath and his three sons: Mahapranad, Mahadev, and Mahasatva of Panchal Desh is one of the widely connected stories with the Namobuddha.

According to religious scriptures, during the Dwapar Yuga (ancient era), Prince Mahasatva (youngest son of King Maharath)once went for a walk in the forest, where he encountered a starving and weak tigress.

Moved by compassion upon seeing the tigress’s weak condition, Mahasatva used bamboo bark to cut pieces of his flesh and offered his blood and meat to feed the tigress and her cubs in Namobuddha.

At that moment, Lord Buddha appeared and blessed him to become Amitabha Buddha. Thus, Prince Mahasattva became renowned as Amitabh Buddha.

Also, Buddhism glorifies the sacrifice of Semchen Chenpo. According to Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, Semchen Chenpo (the youngest son of King Singta Chenpo) offered his life to save the life of a wild tigress and later was reborn as Nyingtob Chenpo.

Embracing this religious tale, Namobuddha is considered a spiritual heritage site for followers of Buddhism and Hinduism.

On a day with clear weather, stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range, Langtang, Jugal, Gaurishankar, and other peaks can be seen from Namobuddha.
