PM Oli’s China Visit Agenda: BRI, Infrastructure, Connectivity

Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba will visit Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in China, on Thursday to prepare for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit.

Although the official announcement is pending, it has been confirmed that Prime Minister Oli’s visit will take place from December 3 to 6 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Li Keqiang.

Foreign Minister Rana is visiting Chengdu with amendments to the agenda previously sent by China for the visit.

On Friday, she will hold formal discussions with her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, regarding Prime Minister Oli’s visit and is scheduled to return to Nepal on Saturday.

‘A broad discussion will take place between the two leaders on matters of mutual interest, including the Prime Minister’s upcoming official visit to China,’ stated a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

Following this, Prime Minister Oli, leading a delegation, is scheduled to visit China from December 3 to 6.

According to sources, during Prime Minister Oli’s visit, discussions will focus on advancing projects related to cross-border infrastructure and connectivity, along with a new framework proposal prepared by the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), regarding the implementation plan of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) signed seven years ago.

Foreign Minister Rana and her counterpart, Yi, will discuss these matters, after which the final agenda for the visit will be confirmed with mutual agreement. Additionally, after Friday’s discussions, both countries are expected to formally announce Prime Minister Oli’s visit.
