Cabinet decides to give public holiday in mourning of former Speaker Dhungana’s demise

Kathmandu: The government has decided to declare a public holiday today in mourning the demise of former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana.

A minister said the cabinet meeting, which was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, decided to give a public holiday.

Similarly, the government decided to observe national mourning today and lower the national flag to half-mast at all government offices across the country.

Former Speaker Dhungana who had been undergoing treatment for liver-related problems for some time, died on Sunday afternoon at the age of 83 at the Frontline Hospital in Baneswor.

Dhungana’s body was then kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Dhungana’s body will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat, after paying homage at Sanogaucharan, his family sources informed.

The government is preparing to decide on the honor to be offered to the late Dhungana during his funeral through a cabinet meeting this morning.
