Kathmandu: A joint team of the Armed Police Force (APF) and the Revenue Investigation Office has seized 112 sacks of sugar from Mujhana in Lumbini Cultural Municipality-2, Rupandehi.
The sugar was seized during a raid conducted on Thursday. Acting on information that the sugar had been smuggled illegally from India and stored in a warehouse, a team from the APF Revenue Unit and the Revenue Investigation Office in Butwal confiscated the sugar.
According to APF Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Shailendra Thapa, a crowd, including members of a smuggling group and residents, obstructed the road and pelted stones at the police, while transporting the seized sugar to the Revenue Investigation Office.
‘Immediately after, a 70-member team led by APF Superintendent Anand Thapa Magar from Battalion No. 27 in Rupandehi dispersed the crowd and successfully delivered the seized sugar to the Revenue Investigation Office in Butwal,’ said DSP Thapa. During the clash, two APF personnel were injured, and a vehicle from the Lumbini security base was also damaged.
