Kathmandu: People have started to enjoy swinging on linge ping (bamboo swing). Youths and children are enjoying the swing.

‘Sa Ra Ra Ra… Cha Cha Hui…’ is a sound that goes parallel with the Dashain swing. The swing gives a different level of excitement to the people with the rocky movement of the bamboo.

The swing has its attraction in the rural areas. Youths in rural areas gather and make the swing on top of hills and open spaces. However, urbanization, the development of technology, and society have reduced the charm of the swing.

Despite the decreasing number, some swings are still saving the culture. The swing has its cultural significance. Swinging culture started before the invention of the airplane. There is a belief that one must leave the earth in Dashain.

The swing has been installed in various parts of Kathmandu Valley. Even rote ping and jantey ping have been installed in a few places.

But the number of swings is decreasing nowadays. Similarly, today we have captured the glimpses of children enjoying the swing in Tarebhir of Narayan Danda, which lies on the border of the Gokarneshwor and Budhanilkantha municipality.
