Kathmandu: 6 people have died when the Mexico Army opened fire on a group of migrants including Nepali.
International media said that 33 people died when the military army opened fire on the vehicle, that was heading to the southern region of Mexico.
In the Defense Ministry’s statement, it said that migrants are from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India and Pakistan. However, the nationality of killed migrants hasn’t been revealed.
Ministry of Defense said other 10 migrants were injured in an incident, near the border with Guatemala. The Ministry said the team on patrol saw the immigrants board pick-up vehicle driving at high speed.
In the statement, it mentioned that the army opened fire after hearing the sound of an explosion. But, it said that the army who opened fire has been dismissed from duty.
Reuters said that in police reports the incident took place in the southern region of Chiapas after it didn’t stop at the army checkpoint, and the army followed and opened fire. 4 people died on the spot, 2 injured out of 12 died during treatment underway. 17 People handed over to immigration authorities.
