Kathmandu: Hindu’s biggest festival Dashain has begun. Dashain is celebrated between Ashwin Shukla Pratipada and Ashwin Purnima.
The festival’s main attraction is Navaratri, where 9 “Avatars” (incarnations) of Goddess Durga are worshipped for 9 days. There is a tradition of visiting different temples of different incarnations of Durga Bhawani on each day.
9 days of Navaratri symbolize the victory over evil. On the first day i.e. Ghatasthapana, devotees worship Shailaputri (daughter of the Mountain King Himavat). On this day people place Jamara in their homes.
