Government to provide immediate grant for construction of temporary housing to flood victims

Kathmandu: The government has decided to immediately provide a grant for the construction of temporary houses for families, whose homes were destroyed in the disaster.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, decided to identify beneficiaries within 7 days and provide the 1st instalment of funds within 3 days, as per the norms of Temporary Housing Construction Grant Procedure.

Home Affairs Spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari said the meeting decided to begin the process of distribution of relief material to the disaster victims through a one-door system and to continue the search operation in the affected areas.

Spokesperson Tiwari said that Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport would arrange stranded passengers on the highway to reach their destination, and  to operate the obstructed road as soon as possible.

Likewise, Tiwari said the meeting decided to carry out the necessary administrative work by the relevant agencies to operate the services as soon as possible, caused by the flood and landslide. The Ministry of Health and Population will conduct public awareness programs, and health camps, to prevent the spread of epidemic diseases aftermath disaster.

The meeting decided that the concerned Ministries should proceed with the reconstruction of the damaged government, public building, road, bridge, drinking water, schools, health institutions and other structures.
