TU bans AI use in exams

Kathmandu: The Tribhuvan University (TU) has banned the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in exams. In case of the use, the exam would be repealed, it warned. The decision was made by the TU Exam Reform Committee on Monday.

The meeting presided over by the committee chairperson and Rector Prof Dr Khadga KC observed that the reading culture was waning with overdependence on technology. The ban on AI use would also discourage the trend of cheating in exam.

Dr KC further said creativity and originality are indicators of student’s integrity, so the ban on AI use was imposed in this context. ‘Students’ reading culture is eroding and cheating getting rife, so we issued notice to the students to discourage misuse of technology’ said Dr KC.

Similarly, use of digital devices as mobile phone and smart watch are prohibited at exam hall. The TU was forced to take such a decision after the complaints were received that digital devices were misused to cheat in the exam. Meanwhile, the oldest university of the country has given a chance to sit in exam for the students who failed to complete academic programs since 2058 BS and semester system from 2069 BS under the streams of humanities, education, management, science and technology, and law.
