Kathmandu:  The Newar Community of Kathmandu Valley has celebrated Indra Jatra, by worshipping Indra; the God of Rain.

The festival began after erecting Indra Dhawaj in front of Hanuman Dhoka, Basantapur. On the day of Bhadra Shukla Dwadashi, after erecting Indra Dhawaj in front of Hanuman Dhoka, Basantapur, Indra Jatra begins.

On the 3rd day of the festival, i.e. on Tuesday, the chariot procession of Living Goddess Kumar, God Ganesha, and God Bhairava was resumed. Before pulling the chariots, there is a tradition of the President and other high-ranking officials worshipping the deities.

Ganas’s of various gods, Pulu kisi, Sawa Bhakku, Jhyalincha, Mahakali, and Lakhe, were also taken on a tour along with the chariots of deities.

The festival is celebrated in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel, and Dolakha. The festival is celebrated for 8 days by performing different dances, pulling chariots, and worshipping God and Goddesses.
