Dhanaraj Gurung: I am innocent; Investigate from anywhere

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress Vice President and lawmaker Dhanaraj Gurung has said he is innocent in the cooperative funds’ embezzlement case.

Addressing the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday, lawmaker Gurung made that clarification. ‘I have been proven innocent in the past as well, anyone can investigate from anywhere,’ said Gurung.

Lawmaker Gurung said that it was not natural for him to be linked with his ex-wife Jyoti Gurung. Referring to the context of Nelson Mandela, he said, ‘It is impossible to connect morally, legally and practically after divorce.’

He further said, ‘Even Nelson Mandela and his wife Beni Mandela divorced. Some cases of Beni also came after the divorce. However, the question was not asked to Nelson Mandela. It is also morally not correct to make the burden of one’s crime on another even during the time of the marriage, and it is completely wrong to do that after divorce.’

Likewise, Gurung challenged Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli, who raised questions against him about embezzlement of cooperative funds, to prove that his divorce with wife Jyoti Gurung on March 12, 2020 (Falgun 29, 2076) was fake.
