Government to choose vacate over Supreme Court’s decisions regarding river standards

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government would soon review (vacate) the decision of the Supreme Court, which does not allow the construction of new structures up to an additional 20 meters from the river bank.

Receiving the memorandum from the representatives of the Valley Roads Expansion Affected People’s Struggle Committee and the River Standard Concern Group Coordinator Suman Sayami, PM Sharma clarified that the government would address the issues of local people and concerned groups.

PM Oli said, ‘We agree on the decision of the honorable court. A few decisions might be full of errors due to various reasons. The only solution to correct the verdict is to choose the legal way; vacate. I believe the court would understand the pain of the public and you will receive justice.’

Similarly, the Prime Minister said, ‘Nepali culture is the culture of unity and friendship. Different kinds of elements are working to disturb our culture and civilization. We need to strengthen our unity and existence. Those who don’t have any background are trying to disturb the feeling of national unity. We need to be alert about it.’

Just after the full text, issued by the Supreme Court, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) also issued a notice not for not allowing to construction of structures within an additional beyond the previously designated riverbank area.

The struggle committee of the victims said that hundreds and thousands of people will be displaced if the decision and notice come into effect. The committee demanded not to implement the decision of the Mayor as there would be no security to the assets.
