The government became flexible to lift the ban after TikTok took the initiative with the commitment to follow all the policies and rules of Nepal.

Government preparing to lift ban on TikTok

Kathmandu: The Government has been preparing to lift the ban on TikTok.

The government preparing to lift the ban after 10 months, which was imposed by former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda-led government.

The Prachanda government banned TikTok on November 13, 2023 (Kartik 27, 2080). The government became flexible to lift the ban after TikTok took the initiative with the commitment to follow all the policies and rules of Nepal.

Likewise, TikTok’s Asia Policy Division Chief Ferus sent a letter of commitment to the Ministry of Communication and Technology through e-mail.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is also positive to remove the ban. According to a Ministry Source, PM Oli has given directions to prepare for lifting the ban.

Minister for Communication Prithvi Subba Gurung has been discussing with TiK Tok’s Nepal Representatives, as per the direction.

Similarly, the source said that the Ministry is preparing to take a proposal to the cabinet, to remove the ban.
