Kathmandu: Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has passed away.
He passed away at the age of 80 years at his residence in Kolkata on Thursday. Bhattacharjee served as Chief Minister for the last 10 years of the 34-year Communist Party government of West Bengal. He ruled West Bengal as the successor of the famous communist leader and long-time Chief Minister Jyoti Basu.
Likewise, he was the senior leader of the Indian Communist Party ( Marxist). He became the Party’s Central Member in 1985 and became the Party’s politburo member from 2002 till 2015.
He was appointed as Vice Chief Minister during the regime of Jyoti Basu. He held many Ministries responsibilities in the West Bengal government for a decade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mamata Banarjee, and Party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury expressed their condolence on the demise of Bhattacharjee.
