Oli queries: How can democracy be in danger with arrest of media owner?

Kathmandu: CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that it was wrong to say democracy is in danger due to the arrest of the media owner.

Interacting with Jhapa’s media on Thursday, Oli said those statements.

‘…Nothing happens when some Ministers, Prime Minister get arrested. How can democracy be in danger when a media owner gets arrested? Oli said, ‘I will not comment whether the arrest was right or not, whether time was right or not. But, it is wrong to say the arrest is a threat to democracy.’

Likewise, Oli was asked a question of whether Sirohiya was arrested based on writing the news. He said that the government has the right to conduct the necessary investigation of the incident.

He said that the law was made only for Giri Bandhu Tea Estate. ‘I don’t know who sold the land. We have only made laws to facilitate land on speculative lease’ said Oli.  He also suggested amending the law on the matter if it is not correct.
