Kathmandu: Buddhists have been celebrating the 2568th Budhha Jayanti across the globe.

Siddhartha Gautam ‘Lord Buddha’, the son of King Suddhodana Queen Maya Devi, was born in 563 B.C. (i.e. 2567 years ago). Maya Devi gave birth to Siddhartha, on the day of Baisakh Shukla Purnima, in Lumbini, Rupandehi.

Buddhists across the globe celebrate this day as an auspicious one. People offer emotional reverence and devotion to Lord Buddha on this day. It was on this same date that Budhha was born, enlightened, and passed away.

Gautam left his palace, and family at the age of 29, and he attained enlightenment at Gaya, India.  After that, he was known as ‘Gautam Buddha’ across the globe.
