CAN announces squad for T-20 World Cup; Sagar Dhakal and Kamal Singh Airee secure their spot

Kathmandu: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced the squad for the ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup 2024.

CAN announced a 15-member squad under the captainship of Rohit Kumar Paudel on Wednesday. The predicted players have been placed in the team.

The team comprises Aasif Sheikh, Kushal Bhurtel, Anil Shah, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lalit Rajbanshi, Karan KC, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Pratish GC, Sundeep Jora, Abinash Bohora, Sagar Dhakal and Kamal Singh Airee.

The discussion, to announce Dipendra Singh Airee as the Vice-Captain, is going on. But, the formal announcement has not been made yet.

Bhurtel and Asif Sheikh are the trusted openers for Nepal. But, even Anil Shah is also part of the team. He can even bat in the third number.

Captain Rohit, Vice-Captain Airee, Kushal Malla, Sundeep, and Gulshan can handle the middle orders.

Karan KC and Sompal Kami will be the pacers for the team. And Lalit is the first-choice spinner for the team. Sagar Dhaka is the second-choice spinner.

Airee, Bhurtel, and Malla can also portray the role of the part-time spinner in the team. Similarly, Gulshan, Kamal, and Pratis G.C. might act as game-changers for the team.

A total of 20 teams will be competing in the T-20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the US and the West Indies from 1st to 29th June.

Nepal is in Group D along with South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh.

Nepal will play its first match against the Netherlands on the 4th of June. Nepal will play its second match against Sri Lanka on the 11th of June. Nepal and South Africa will compete on the 14th of June. Bangladesh and Nepal will play on the 16th of June.
