Dhangadhi: Dairy Farmers and Nepal Farmers Federation Kailali have been enforcing ‘Chakka Jam’ by spilling milk on the streets.
Farmers halted the vehicular movement on East-West Highway on Thursday at 10 a.m. They were demanding their uncleared bill. The demonstrators spilled their milk on the streets of Attariya Chowk.
Farmer Madan Raj Giri said that the farmers were compelled to demonstrate as DDC, owned by the Nepal Government, had to pay 5 crore rupees in Sudurpaschim Province. He said that the bills of the farmers in the Sudurpaschim province had not been clear since Asoj.

They said that despite their investment in cows and buffalos, they didn’t get the amount in return. Giri said that the farmers were not even generating an adequate amount of income to provide daily fodder to the animals.
Another farmer, Mohan Raj Joshi said that the farmers had spilled milk on the street as private and government-owned dairies were not clearing the due amount and not even buying the milk.

The due amount of DDC, of the farmers across the nation, has reached about 7 billion rupees. Joshi said that they demonstrated to grab the attention of the concerned authorities over the issue. They obstructed the East-West Mahendra Highway from Thursday. The demonstrators even warned to fuel the protest if the government ignored their demands.
Nepal Farmers Federation has demanded the immediate clearance of the due amount, purchase of farmers’ milk, setting the price of the milk, announcing support price of all agricultural products, taking action against the Insurance company for not giving payment to the insured farmers, etc.
