Kathmandu District Police Range rescues 11 Indians

Kathmandu: District Police Range Kathmandu has disclosed the gang, which was turning Indians into hostages in Nepal. Police successfully rescued 11 Indians and disclosed 7-member gang.

The Police Range organized a press conference to disclose about the arrested ones on Thursday. The gang, which was bringing Indian nationals to Nepal by luring them of sending to the USA. Police said that they were searching for the other involved ones in the crime.

The gang had been sending people illegally from Nepal to the USA via Mexico. Indu Singh, Nipun Gupta, Charanjeet Singh, Ashok Kumar, Abdul Rahim, Manish Kumar Malhotra, and Ravid Mehday are the arrested members of the gang.

District Police Range Chief Bhupendra Khatri said,’ 11 Indians have been rescued. They were hostages. The 7 Indians, who are believed to be involved in the case, have been arrested.’

Some came to Nepal directly from India, and some through Dubai and Qatar. Whereas, some of them already have reached Mexico. Chief Khatri said,’ Those rescued people were brought to Nepal by taking a good amount from them. The gang lured them in name of taking the people to the USA. It assured the victims of sending them to USA via Dubai. The gang has been arrested.’

The traffickers used to shoot the videos of the victims on a green screen and put the background and sound effect of Mexico to scam other people. They were scamming other people by sending the edited videos. ‘They used to shoot the videos. And put background of foreign land. The script of the video used to be “We are close to the USA and You all should also come.” And send it to scam the people,’ said Khatri.

Likewise, the USA Department of State’s report on ‘Human Trafficking’ mentioned Nepal as a ‘transit’ for human traffickers. The traffickers have kept the victims inside a rented house in Ratopul. It has been found that some were kept for 14 days, some 20 days, and some for even months in the house. They were brought to Nepal via air route.

Traffickers were charges of 40-45 lakh rupees per person for sending to USA. Police investigated this case as a Human Trafficking and hostage crime case.
