Unbeaten Nepal reaches quarterfinal, defeats Maldives by 214 runs

Kathmandu: The women’s national cricket team of Nepal has entered the quarterfinal stage of the ACC Women’s Premier Cup. 

Nepal defeated Maldives in the last match of the Group stage by 2214 runs. Nepal had defeated Hong Kong and Bhutan by 8 wickets in the previous matches. 

This is the victory with the maximum margin for Nepal in the International Women’s T-20. Nepal defeated Qatar by 119 runs in 2019. 

Maldives failed to chase the target of 228 runs presented by Nepal. Maldives was packed up in 13.5 overs and scored only 13 runs. Six batters of Maldives had to face dug out. The rest of the players failed to touch score two-digit runs. 

Asmina Karmacharya took 4 wickets for Nepal. Puja Mahato and Rubina Chhetri Belbase took 3 wickets each for Nepal. 

In the first innings, the National Women’s Cricket team of Nepal posted a target of 228 runs against Maldives in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup.

Nepal set a high target of 228 runs in the ongoing match in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Nepal won the toss and chose to bat first. Nepal scored 227 runs in 20 overs with a loss of 4 wickets.

Rubina Chhetry Belabase was unbeaten at 118 runs out of 59 balls. She hit 10 boundaries and 5 sixes. Rubina completed her century in 54 balls. She is the first woman batter to score a century for Nepal. Earlier, Sita Rana Magar had scored 82 runs against Qatar in 2021.

Puja Mahato was also unbeaten at 59 runs. She smashed 5 fours and 1 six out of 36 balls. Shamma Ali took 3 wickets for Maldives.

Likewise, Nepal placed in ‘ Group ‘D’ earned back to victory in 2 games, and booked a place in Quarterfinal. Thus today’s victory will make Nepal the group winner.
