Kathmandu: The meeting of the nonaligned movement (NAM) has begun in Uganda. The meeting was inaugurated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Head of the Azerbaijan delegation, Yalchin Rafiyev.
Azerbaijan is preparing to hand over Chairpersonship to Uganda at the end of this week, as it had assumed Chairpersonship in 2019.
In the plenary session, Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations Dr. Riyad Mansour urged members to address the Palestinian-Israeli crisis. Dr Mansour said NAM has been facing challenges and the crisis in the Middle East is most under pressure.
Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Togo, Mauritania, Maldives, and other country representatives supported keeping the Israel – Palestine issue at the top of the agenda.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Permanent Secretary, Hamza Adan Hadou said that the member states should also be addressing the issue of the violation of their country’s sovereignty by a neighboring country must be addressed.
As per, Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Out of 120 member states, 93 country representatives participated in the meeting.
Likewise, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ led a delegation to participate in the 19th NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) Summit and will leave for Kampala, Uganda on 18th January 2024( Magh 4, 2080).
PM Dahal will address the’ Expanding Cooperation for Shared Global Prosperity’ preliminary meeting on 19th January 2024( Magh 5, 2080).
