Kathmandu: The Newar community is celebrating Yomari Puhni Festival (Yomari Purnima) today. The Newar community celebrates Yomari Purnima on the occasion of bringing the paddy in the house.

This Yomari festival is one of the most important festivals of the Newar Community. The festival is even celebrated as the juicy festival due to the special newari dish Yomari.

Yomari is made up of rice flour; made up from the first paddy brought into the house. The cone-shaped dish made up of rice flour is filled with a mixture of Chaku, molasses, and sesame seeds.

The Newar Community celebrates this festival by performing puja inside the store room where paddy is kept inside it. The purification process of the body and the house starts on the earlier day.

People take a bath on the earlier day to purify themselves. There is a ritual of people making Yomari after the bath. Then, they offer it to God Ganesh( God of Luck), God Kuber( God of wealth), and Goddess Laxmi (Goddess of Wealth). And eat Yomari in the form of prasad.

The Newar community also celebrates Jyapu Day today.
