Stressful situation in CPN (UML) Karnali, Deputy Secretary Shahi forcefully sacked

Surkhet: CPN (UML) has sacked Karnali Province Deputy Secretary Ramesh Kumar Shahi. UML removed Shahi, who was elected from the UML Karnali Province Convention, and nominated Padam Khadka to the post.

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel sent a letter to the Karnali Province Committee, mentioning the appointment of Khadka in place of Shahi. Pokharel mentioned in the letter that the Central Secretariat meeting decided on 8th November (22nd Kartik),

Shahi and Khadka competed from different panels in the Province Committee Election, held on 27 and 28 September (10th and 11th Asoj). Shahi had won the election.

There were no reservation quotas for women at that time. Khadka was appointed in place of Shahi as there were no women in 5 members’ officers.

This has resulted in a huge dissatisfaction in Karnali. The Secretariat Committee decided after an application was filed claiming the availability of reservations for women for the designation of Deputy Secretary.

The letter mentions, ‘There was an application claiming the need of the women reservation quota for the Deputy Secretary in the Karnali Province Convention. After a mere discussion on the application, the decision has been made to appoint the women’s nomination with the highest number of votes, i.e. Khadka, in place of Ramesh Kumar Shahi. Shahi would be nominated to the Province Committee.’

Shahi said that he was elected to the post of Deputy Secretary with the adoption of a democratic legal system in the convention. ‘I was elected from the votes of the cadres in the convention, ‘Shahi said, ‘It is hilarious to assign the responsibility to anyone contrary to the law. No one has the right, not even the Secretary of the Centre, to snatch the right of an elected official of the committee.’
