Mid-West University yet to clear arrears of Rs. 1 billion

Kathmandu: The arrears of Mid-West University have reached Rs. 1.12 billion in a decade.

The University administration made public the arrears by organizing a press meeting at its central office in Birendranagar, Surkhet on Friday. University Registrar Prof Dr. Narayan Prasad Poudel said the arrears were Rs. 8.398 million in the establishment year, 2068/69 BS.

But it has now reached Rs. 1.12 billion in the fiscal year, 2078/79 BS. An audit of Rs. 124.051 million arrears has been conducted and around Rs. 1 billion rupees arrears are still to be cleared, added Registrar Poudel.

The highest amount of arrears—Rs. 405.96 million (36.04 percent) was in the fiscal year 2075/76 BS. Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Dr. Nanda Bahadur Singh cleared the confusion created by the news related to arrears during a press conference.

The news was disseminated on social networking sites and media indicating that all of the arrears were incurred in his term.
