Dolakha: The word ‘Sailung’ has been derived from the Tamang language. Sailung is made by combining two words: Sai means ‘hundred’ and ‘lung’ means ‘thumka‘ (hills) in Tamang.
Sailung is popularly known as the ‘Land of 100 Hills.’ Sailung is located at 3350 meters above sea level. It is popular for its religion and culture.
Similarly, Sailung is also one of the popular tourist areas. It is regarded as a pilgrimage place for Buddhists and Hindus.
Sailung is the border area between Dolakha and Ramechhap. More than 70% area of Sailung area lies in Dolakha.
Doramba Shialung Rural Municipality of Ramechhap, Sailung Rural Municipality of Dolakha, and Melung Rural Municipality also comprise the Sailung area. Usually, the areas are covered with snow during snowfall.
Likewise, when the weather is clear, one can see almost all mountains above 8000 meters, except Kanchanjunga, Mahabharat range, and other hills from Sailung.
There are 3ways to reach Sailung from Kathmandu. One can reach Sailung through Araniko Highway passing through Mude, Sindhupalchowk, or Tamakoshi Bazaar, Dolakha. Also, one can reach Sailing via. BP Highway through Kholakharka, Doramba, and Ramechhap.
