Wagle leads by over 5,000 vote margin in Tanahun-1

Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Swarnim Wagle has extended his lead in the vote count of by-election in Tanahun-1.

As per the latest update, Wagle has got 9,483 votes after a total of 17,077 votes count, leading the closest competitor by 5,011 votes. Govinda Bhattarai, who is trailing behind him, has garnered 4,472 votes. While CPN-UML candidate Sarbendra Khanal has gained 2,560 votes so far.

Since the start of vote counting last night, Wagle has been taking the lead from the beginning.

By-election was held in Tanahun-1 on Sunday to elect the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) as the post of HoR member was vacant after Ram Chandra Poudel, the lawmaker from the constituency, got elected as the President.

Similarly, by-polls were also held on Sunday in Chitwan-2 and Bara-2 constituencies. Bara-2 went to by-poll after the lawmaker from there Ramsahaya Yadav was elected to the post of Vice-President.

While the annulment of HoR membership of Rabi Lamichhane by the Supreme Court led to the by-election in Chitwan-2. The opinion polls shows that Lamichhane is likely to be re-elected from there with huge margin.
