Voting begins in three constituencies for by-elections

Kathmandu: Voting has begun for the by-elections in Bara constituency-2, Chitwan-2 and Tanahun-1. Although the vote casting was scheduled to begin at 7 am, it has started little late in some polling centers.

Voters are queueing up at polling stations. It is reported that there is not much enthusiasm among the voters. According to the Election Commission, voters who entered the polling station till 5 pm will be able to cast their votes.

Candidates from the ruling alliance, opposition CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RSP) are contesting in all the three constituencies. In Bara-2, the candidate of the ruling alliance Janamat Party is also in the race.

Ram Chandra Poudel, elected to the House of Representatives from Tanahun-1 and Ram Sahai Prasad Yadav, elected to the House of Representatives from Bara-2, have been elected as president and vice-president respectively.

In Chitwan-2, the by-election is being held after the Supreme Court annulled Rabi Lamichhane’s status as lawmaker over citizenship case.

No vehicular movement has been allowed in three constituencies today.  The Commission has directed the concerned authority to manage the movement and operation of vehicles in the respective districts as prescribed by the local administration.
