Four dead at birthday party shooting in US state of Alabama

Kathmandu: A mass shooting at a birthday party in the US state of Alabama has left four people dead, injuring at least 28 others.

The deadly rampage happened in downtown Dadeville around 10:34 p.m. Saturday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said. ‘There were four lives tragically lost in this incident, and there’s been a multitude of injuries,’ Sgt. Jeremy J. Burkett said.

At least 28 other people were injured after shots were fired at the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio, with some injured in critical condition.  Most of the victims were teenagers, the media report said.

One of the victims killed was Philstavious Dowdell – a stellar high school football player and the brother of the birthday girl.

Following the incident, President Joe Biden renewed his calls for tougher gun laws. ‘What has our nation come to when children cannot attend a birthday party without fear?’ Mr Biden asked, in a statement released by the White House on Sunday.
