South Korean military fires warning shots on North Korean patrol boat

Kathmandu: South Korean military has fired warning shots on the patrol boat of North Korea on the disputed maritime border.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), which reported the incident on Sunday, said that warning shots had been fired on the patrol boat of North Korea after it breached the Northern Limit Line (NLL) on Saturday morning.

The JCS in a statement said that the military found the North Korean patrol boat violating the NLL with a move of a decisive battle.

The poor visibility resulted in slight contact between a South Korean patrol ship and a Chinese fishing vessel during the operation said JCS. This resulted in minor injuries to the South Korean crew.

The aroused tension due to Pyongyang’s stepped-up military activities seems to have resulted in the penetration of the patrol boat.  Experts have even predicted North Korea’s testing of a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday signals the upcoming missile launch.

Pyongyang has been threatening military action after the military drill, that took place in March, between South Korea and the United States.

Pyongyang has been creating disputes over the NLL, claiming that it should be far from South Korea, since the 1990s.

The United Nations Command (UNC) promulgated the NLL, at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War, on 30th August 1953.
