Sindhuli: Devotees visiting the famous Hindu pilgrimage site, Kuseshwor Mahadev Temple, located at the confluence of the Sunkoshi and Roshi rivers, are currently facing difficulties.

Since the humepipe (culvert) that provided access to the temple was swept away by the flood in the Roshi River on September 27-29 (Asoj 12) last year, it has become increasingly difficult for pilgrims to reach the temple.

According to the Nepal Mahatmya section of the Himavat Purana, the sage Kaushik had meditated in this region.

On the opposite bank of the Sunkoshi River, across from the Kuseshwor Mahadev Temple, is also said to be the place where the sage Vishwamitra meditated. The Gayatri Mantra originated from this very place, as per the Shiva Purana.

Previously, human pipes were laid in the Roshi river to make it convenient for people to reach the temple. This had made it easier for both vehicles and pedestrians to access the temple.

However, after the flood washed it away last year, there is no option now but to cross the river itself to reach the temple. People are compelled to cross the road on foot.

As even light rain causes the Roshi’s water level to rise, the number of devotees visiting the temple has significantly decreased.

The flood also swept away the concrete bridge over the Sunkoshi River, cutting off road access from this area to Khanda Devi, Doramba, and Shailung in Ramechhap district via the Mid-Hill Highway.

Due to the absence of the bridge, locals are now forced to take a detour of approximately 15 kilometers via Mulkot in order to reach Ramechhap.
