Kathmandu: The Dharke–Sitapaila road section has become a preferred alternative route for entering and exiting Kathmandu.

The Nagdhunga–Naubise road is riddled with potholes, and ongoing upgrades have further slowed traffic. As a result, private vehicles have been using the Sitapaila–Bhimdhunga–Dharke road since last year. Now, even passenger microbuses and other vehicles have started using this 24-kilometer stretch. It takes around 45 minutes to travel from Sitapaila to Dharke.

With increased traffic along this route, residents are also seeing a rise in income. Travelers have started purchasing locally grown vegetables along the way, providing locals with a new source of livelihood. Fresh produce is now available right by the roadside, eliminating the need for locals to travel to Kathmandu to sell their goods.

The Dharke–Sitapaila road is not newly built. Its construction began back in 1988 (2045 BS) to reduce pressure on the Nagdhunga–Naubise section. Even now, the road is not fully completed—some parts are yet to be blacktopped.

It serves as an excellent option for vehicles to avoid the heavy traffic jams often seen along the Nagdhunga–Naubise road section when traveling in and out of the capital.
