Protest against exclusion of “Hospital Manager” position

Kathmandu: The Nepal Health Services Management Association has staged a protest at Maitighar, expressing discontent over the government’s exclusion of the Hospital Manager position from the Organization and Management (O&M) survey proposed after 20 years.

The participants carried banners and placards with slogans, marching from Bijulibazar to Maitighar. According to the association, omitting this position, which is considered essential for ensuring quality in the health service sector, contradicts the constitutional right to quality healthcare guaranteed as a fundamental right.

Currently, about 650 skilled professionals are graduating each year from 15 university-level educational institutions across Nepal at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. The association claims that formal education in hospital management has been available in Nepal since 2000, and roughly 4,000 skilled personnel have been produced domestically and internationally to date.
