Kathmandu: The National Botanical Garden, located in Godawari of Lalitpur, remains green almost throughout the year.

Established in 2019 B.S. (1962 A.D.) for the conservation and promotion of rare, endangered, and indigenous plant species, Godawari’s garden is the oldest among the twelve botanical gardens in Nepal.

Spread over 82 hectares, the garden attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. Due to the absence of water scarcity, different trees thrive in various microclimates — utis trees flourish in moist areas, pine forests grow on sunlit slopes, and katus and chilaune trees thrive in moderately warm zones.

Aiselu (wild raspberry), chutro (barberry), and kafal (bayberry) are quite popular in Godawari. The National Botanical Garden in Godavari is a unique treasure trove of nature’s three main attractions: flowers, butterflies, and birds.
