Kathmandu: Boudhanath Stupa is a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site.

Boudhanath Stupa is considered one of the largest spherical stupas in the world, which attracts the attention of both tourists and pilgrims. Its area is three times the area of Swayambhunath.

People believe that the stupa enshrines Kassapa Buddha. It is also known as Khasti Chaitya and Khsa Chaitya. The stupa was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

The stupa was constructed after the Mughal invasion from the south. There are many interesting facts about the construction of a stupa.

After thousands of Tibetan refugees came to Nepal following China’s invasion of Tibet in 1259, Boudhanath Stupa became an important centre of Tibetan Buddhism.
