Kathmandu: During the pro-monarchy rally that turned violent in the Tinkune area on Chaitra 15 (March 28), two people lost their lives, many others were injured, and both public and private properties were vandalized and set on fire.
Among the affected was a medicinal herbs production and processing company. The company’s administrative building was vandalized, while its production and laboratory facilities were set on fire, rendering them completely unusable.
According to the company’s Acting General Manager, Usha Rijal, the company oversees cultivation, processing, production, and marketing. While cultivation and processing are handled by its external branches, marketing and related tasks are managed by the central office. As a result, the incident brought nearly all operations to a halt for about a month.

Despite concerns about whether the company would resume operations, Rizal said production restarted within a month of the incident.
To facilitate this, the Ministry of Forests and Environment coordinated support, and the Federal Secretariat Construction and Management Office helped install glass panels in the administrative building. She said a room in the production facility that had sustained minimal damage was cleaned and used to temporarily resume production.

Before the fire, machines were used for production, but as the machines were completely destroyed, all work now has to be done manually by the staff. Consequently, the company has not been able to operate at full capacity. The acting general manager said currently, it is operating at only 50 to 60 percent capacity.
