Kathmandu: The Langtang Trail Run has been launched this year to promote tourism in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, including Langtang and Kyanjin Valley. The event is organized by the Rasuwa-Nuwakot Tourism Society with participation from tourism entrepreneurs of both districts.
The trail run covers a distance of 32 kilometers, starting from Kyanjin Gompa — located at an altitude of 3,850 meters — and ending at Syafrubesi. A total of 100 runners, including both domestic and international participants, are taking part in the event.
Langtang is not only Bagmati Province’s major Himalayan tourism destination but also Nepal’s third most popular trekking region. The trail run begins in Kyanjin Valley, surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. Organizers believe the event will help establish the Langtang region as a destination not just for trekking but also for trail running and marathon events.
This year’s trail run is organized by the Rasuwa-Nuwakot Tourism Society with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province, the Nepal Tourism Board, and in collaboration with Gosainkunda Rural Municipality.
Separate cash prizes will be awarded to the male and female winners of the Langtang Trail Run. The event was inaugurated this morning (Jestha 24) by Minister of Culture and Tourism, Bimal Thakuri, who cut the ceremonial ribbon. Runners will race from Kyanjin Gompa to Syafrubesi, covering the 32-kilometer trail.
The top five finishers will receive cash prizes of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 75,000, Rs. 50,000, Rs. 25,000, and Rs. 15,000, respectively.
According to Society President Balram Neupane, the Langtang Trail Run is being organized to promote adventure tourism in the Langtang National Park area.
