Kathmandu: The staging of the play “Manjira” is underway at Mandala Theater in Thapagaun.  The drama had its premiere show on Jestha 16 (May 30)

The play portrays the story of an ordinary woman who was subjected to sexual violence during the conflict period. Also, one can feel the bottom line of the story revolving around a justice seeker and a snatcher.

It’s like experiencing the sound produced after two hand cymbals touch each other. Based on the synchronization of cymbals on a particular beat, either a pleasant sound or a noise is created. The same effect occurs in society when there is either unity or conflict among people for justice.

Manjira is the second of the 11 plays being staged as part of Mandala Theater’s Theater Season 2082. Manjira, acting as a comeback of senior theater artist and film actor Saroj Khanal in a play after nine years, has created a buzz in the town.

After performing in about 30 plays, Khanal entered the film industry and last performed at Mandala Theater in 2073 B.S. in the play “Bahra Durwasha,” directed by Rajan Khatiwada. After that, he has now returned to the stage through “Manjira.”

Alongside Khanal Sarita Giri, Saraswati Chaudhary, Anup Neaupane, and Sushank Mainali are the actors who added life to the characters of the drama.

Somnath Khanal and Sandesh Ghimire wrote the story of the play. The credit for concept and direction goes to Khanal. Director Khanal said, “Manjira” tells the story of those who search for justice and those who take it away.

Except on Mondays, the play will be staged every day. Each evening the show starts at 5:15 PM, and there’s an additional show on Saturdays at 1 PM. The staging of the drama will conclude on the Asar 8 (June 22).
