Writ filed against governor’s appointment: “Match-fixing occurred; Do not sign on banknotes”

Kathmandu: A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, alleging “match-fixing” in the appointment of Governor Dr. Bishwanath Paudel. The writ claims that someone who was part of the recommendation committee itself was appointed as governor, thus constituting “match-fixing.”

Paudel resigned on Baisakh 28 (May 11) before Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, who also heads the recommendation committee. The writ states that it is already clear that a person from the recommendation committee was ready to be appointed themselves as governor.

Since it might take time to resolve the case, the petitioners have requested that the governor not be allowed to sign on currency notes.

The writ, filed by advocates Bishal Thapa, Pratibha Upreti, and Anantaraj Luintel, claims that Governor Paudel was unlawfully recommended and appointed, and has also requested an interim order to stop him from signing notes.

The writ states, “An interim order should be issued in the name of the opposition party to prevent the governor from performing any far-reaching actions in his capacity as governor, including signing notes, on serious matters of national importance that could affect the nation.”

The writ has sought an interim order as per Rule 49(1) of the Supreme Court Regulations, 2074. Advocate Upreti has informed that the hearing on the writ against Governor Paudel has been scheduled for Wednesday.
