Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat: Development of energy sector essential for country’s economic prosperity

Kathmandu: Former Energy Minister and Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said the development of the energy sector was indispensable for the economic prosperity of the country.

Carrying out an on-site inspection of the 140-MW under construction Tanahun Hydropower Project this morning, Dr. Mahat stressed the need to take the nation ahead in the path of prosperity by utilizing the water resources available in the country maximum.

The country could be made prosperous by selling electricity, and industrial development was possible through energy, mentioned former Minister Dr. Mahat, emphasizing the need to complete the hydropower project on time to make the country self-reliant in energy.

Dr. Mahat pointed out the need to use electric vehicles to reduce the import of petroleum products. Leader Mahat also inspected the powerhouse of the project. On the occasion, Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari briefed the former Energy Minister about the progress of the project made so far.
