Discussion among 6 Nepali Congress leaders who see themselves as future party president

Kathmandu: Although the date for the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress has not yet been decided, leaders have intensified their activities in anticipation of taking future leadership. Amid this, six leaders from the establishment faction held discussions on Sunday.

The meeting took place at the residence of former Vice President Gopalman Shrestha in Sanepa and was attended by former Vice Presidents Bimalendra Nidhi and Prakashman Singh, former General Secretaries Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Dr. Shashank Koirala, and former Joint General Secretary and party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat. All of these leaders have expressed aspirations to become the next party president. Among them, Sitaula, Nidhi, and Singh have previously contested for the presidency, whereas Shrestha, Koirala, and Mahat have not yet run for the post.

Earlier, meetings among Nidhi, Koirala, and Singh had already taken place. This recent discussion was notable for including three additional leaders in the talks.

Since party president Sher Bahadur Deuba is ineligible to run for the presidency again under the party’s constitution, this gathering of Deuba-aligned leaders is being viewed as politically significant. However, Deuba has not yet indicated support for any particular leader as his successor.
